GIG Delegation is Manama, the capital of the Kingdom of Bahrain, to attend the 2019 CIBJO Congress, with delegates from all over the world.

The CIBJO Congress 2019 is the most important international appointment for the jewellery and gemstones industry. As the most important worldwide laboratories and institutes, GIG, Gulf Institute of Gemology, is present representing the Sultanate of Oman.

The schedule of the CIBJO Congress includes a series of meetings of different working groups, called sectors and commissions, each of which focuses on a different sector or field of interest in the jewellery industry.

Gulf Institute of Gemology delegation is involved in the pre-congress works, consisting in the steering committees, about diamonds, colored stones, pearls, gem labs, precious metals, coral and responsible sourcing.

“We are very proud to be a stable member of this important organization and to represent the Sultanate of Oman and the entire Middle East in the international stage of jewellery and precious stones market” says Mr Fabio D’Amico, the GIG CEO. “GIG, Gulf Institute of Gemology, at its first officially presence in CIBJO Congress, has already a key role in taking decision about gemological regulations and standards”.

CIBJO Congresses serve as the official gathering place for the World Jewellery Confederation’s Assembly of Delegates, and also are the venue for the annual meetings of CIBJO’s sectoral commissions, where amendments can be introduced to the organisation’s definitive directories of international industry standards for diamonds, coloured stones, pearls, gem labs, precious metals, coral and responsible sourcing, known as the Blue Books.

Congresses are also where the programme of the World Jewellery Confederation Education Foundation (WJCEF) and CIBJO’s ongoing cooperation with the United Nations is reported upon, and in particular its commitment to the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.
