This lecture deals with the purchases of fine jewelry with colored gemstones. The main point is to prepare every consumer for the dangers they may encounter in the market.
The nature of gemstones, their optical and physical properties and how these combine for gemstone beauty and value will be the main point.
Commonly encountered gemstone enhancements and their effect on the appearance and value of the gems, as well as sources and environmental
and political considerations will be discussed. Certification, treatments and
how these affect the market will be presented. Special focus will be given
on the characteristics that affect the value of gemstones and jewelry and advice on how to make wise purchases will be discussed.
